The real problem with pretension
is that of leakage,really.
We never know what it is
and how much of it
that seeps into our soul
We could be more honest
if we dared
Plant fences with no peep-holes
Around ourselves
With ugly graffitti warnings
And look out at the world
through the cracks
We see too much and too little
Why would we
make the same mistakes again?
Poetry should exist for a better purpose
than bleeding through words
and decoding patterns
that form on blotting paper
We can comb through it
The paradoxes and half-truths
And find blunt insights
in this crimson swamp
But to be honest,
We'd rather not.

Enjoyed this one.
ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
DeleteYou guide me through these thoughts that I often wish I had thought too.. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess, most thoughts tend to have auniversal quality. We ll think them, in one way or another. Give or take some details. :)
DeleteThanks for being a regular reader here. <3
I see so many people around me who just love to pretend, and well what can I say, it is sort of sad to see how uncomfortable people are with their real selves, and how strong the need to push this projected image an be.
ReplyDeleteAnd that image of the Crimson Swamp was breath taking.
Amazing as always E.
Yes, it is quite sad. And that image was quite a spontaneous creation. :)
DeleteThanks for being a regular reader here. <3
I would prefer less fences and poetry of transparency and and honesty. Sharing is better than pretending behind masks.
DeleteDefinitely. But that kind of honesty and transparency is difficult to achieve when it comes to our own selves - we aren't very eager to acknowledge and accept our flaws. But we try. :)
DeleteThanks for reading!
i guess you are right, but gradually accepting those flaws is perhaps the only way we can grow
DeleteI agree, Suyash. That is perhaps, the only way. We cannot correct what we do not accept.
DeleteYou have made some wise observations here.
ReplyDeleteThanks. :)
DeleteIndeed - I think the world at large would rather not - but we are blessed in this 'community' on line that people see through that leakage and maybe understand at least parts of it...an insightful poem
ReplyDeleteYes; at least, I hope they do. :)
DeleteThanks for reading!
love this bold pronunciation...wise lines...
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)

ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
DeleteDeep and thought provoking.

DeleteThis reminds me of Marianne Moore's "Poetry." She loves it, but she hates it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I will check that out. :)
DeleteThanks for reading!
I was impressed so I read it again, and again. Wonderful, thought provoking and memorable.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Means a lot. :)
DeleteYes that's life, "A crimson swamp".
ReplyDeleteProbably. :)
DeleteThanks for reading!
You captured some of my view on poetry so well.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear that. Maybe, on some level, we poets think alike. :)
DeleteI like poetry that is unique and strikes a chord within me, which is not easy to accomplish ~ Thanks for the share ~
ReplyDeleteThanks, Grace. Means a lot! :)
DeleteAh, if only poetry could save the world - as once I imagined it might.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not all, but poetry can definitely save one world. Ours. :)
DeleteAnd that is why we write on.
Great imagery here..."bleeding through words"...."form on blotting paper"....and I especially love "crimson swamp"!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that. Thanks! :)
DeleteI thought that was lovely, a vivid piece truly. Thanks for sharing. Greetings to you!
